Dr. Westgard's website - Westgard Multi-Rule Procedure (Westgard 1981) was designed to improve the power of quality control methods using + 3 Standard Deviation limits to detect trends and shifts. Multi-Rule Quality Control procedure uses a combination of decision criteria, or control rules, to decide whether an analytical run is in control or out of control. Proper use can substantially reduce the incidence of false rejection when compared to strict + 2 Standard Deviation limits such as Levey-Jennings Charts.
